Special consideration

The University's assessment practices are designed to ensure that conditions are fair to all students, as consistent as possible and that individual students are not disadvantaged by adverse personal circumstances beyond their control or by the activities of other students.

Generally, serious illness or misadventure will be taken into account when considering a student’s academic performance in a course or units of study. However, there is clear distinction between longstanding illness or difficulties which prevent students from attending classes and/or completing required work and short-term serious illness or misadventure that may prevent a well-prepared student from sitting for an examination or completing a particular assignment.

In the event of non-attendance due to ill-health or misadventure, a request for special consideration may be lodged within seven days from date of non-attendance.

Procedure for lodging a Special Consideration

Download a copy of The Sydney Summer School guidelines for applying for special consideration in Winter School.

To lodge a special consideration in Winter School a student must:

  1. complete a Special Consideration form;
  2. attach relevant evidentiary documentation - Professional Practitioners Certificate;
  3. present all documentation to the Winter School office for receipting and logging;
  4. lodge original documents at the relevant department or faculty office.

The faculty will notify students of academic judgment in due course.

Important: A request for special consideration may not automatically result in a supplementary examination.
