Director's Welcome

Each summer, The University of Sydney’s academic excellence attracts students from all over the world to take part in our intensive Summer School. This year there will be over 135 undegraduate and postgraduate subjects from 10 faculties offered over three sessions. Some subjects are offered online, others are offered overseas, others are on campus.
We accept enrolments from currently enrolled students from Australian or overseas tertiary institutions or international students on a visitor visa who wish to take a Summer school subject or suitably qualified Australian residents.

There are many reasons why students want to study in the summer. Some want to accelerate their progress towards their certificate, diploma or degree. This allows international students to return to their home country and families sooner, thus saving on living costs. Others want to catch up on subjects in which they may have been unsuccessful, or to study only one subject intensely, without the distraction of other subjects. Some undertake Summer School because they want to broaden their education and they take subjects that are outside their normal program. Many students tell us that studying one or two subjects over summer means they can manage the demands of their normal semester programs much better. International students frequently enrol in the Summer School after completing their English program or their Study Abroad program and some come for a short international study experience. Recent high school /foundation year graduates can study a first year subject and get an early start on their degree.

Due to the intensive nature of Summer and Winter School study, the class sizes are generally much smaller than during Semesters One and Two. This means strict limits have been placed on classes and it is strongly advised to enrol early to ensure your place. Enrolments for Winter open on 28 May 2007 and for summer open on 27 September 2007.

This website contains information on how our Summer School operates, detailed information on all subjects offered, scholarships and prizes, accommodation available during the Summer School period and how to apply online.

I look forward to welcoming you to our Summer School as you take up the challenge to learn at one of the world’s best universities in one of the world’s most beautiful cities. In the meantime, please contact us if you have any queries about our Summer School program or need further information or assistance.
